Who We Are
The Association for Special Education Technology (ASET) is a non-profit network of educators, consultants, therapists, school leaders and industry partners committed to advancing assistive technology, accessibility and inclusive education across Ontario.
Every spring, ASET brings this community together to learn, collaborate, share innovative practices and explore emerging technologies that remove barriers to learning.
Our Story
Our Story
In 2004, a small group of educators came together with a shared vision:
form a collective voice for a network of professionals
share best practices as technology was quickly evolving
and help Assistive Technology evolve in Ontario
Word quickly spread, the first group meeting was held at Durham Catholic School Board, and the Association for Special Education Technology (or better known as ASET) was born!
Over 20 Years of Impact Across Ontario
Since 2004, ASET has worked alongside educators, school boards, publishers and the Ministry of Education to advance assistive technology, accessibility and inclusive education across Ontario.
Building Professional Networks
Building Professional Networks
Created province-wide communication networks that continue to connect educators and promote the sharing of assistive technology knowledge and best practices.
Expanding Accessible Resources
Expanding Accessible Resources
Partnered with publishers to help establish the W. Ross Macdonald Resource Services Library, providing Ontario students with communication disabilities access to accessible educational materials.
Improving Accessible Assessment
Improving Accessible Assessment
Supported the development of consistent, high-quality accessible EQAO test formats, reducing workload for educators while improving equity for students.
Influencing Provincial Policy
Influencing Provincial Policy
Provided a collective voice to inform Ministry initiatives, including the development of the SEA program and broader accessibility supports across Ontario schools.
